Grade Three:
Grade Three students continue to strengthen vocal skills, both individually and as an ensemble. They are emerging music readers
who use their knowledge of music notation and rhythmic skills to improvise and compose on percussion instruments. They are
continuing to learn about the different families of Orchestral instruments as well as about Composers and the creative process.
Grade Three students are introduced to playing the Soprano recorder in the Spring.
Grade Four:
While the focus of the Grade 4 year is learning to play soprano recorder (which also means learning to read and write music on the treble clef), we also sing, move, play drums, xylophones, metallophones, develop listening skills, and improvise and compose music.
Our Grade 4 Recorder Concert is a show-case of some of the things that we have worked on this year. All Grade 4 parents
(and Grade 3 students) are invited to attend this annual event which will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2019 at 8:45 a.m. in the Crisafulli Cafe. Hope to see you there!
Grade Five:
Grade 5 students strengthen their growing musical skills and awareness through singing (including rounds and canons) and
games and experiences involving beat, rhythm and tempo. They practice musical improvisation and use their knowledge of
music notation, melody and harmony to create and perform compositions in groups.
Students are able to practice using important musical concepts such as treble clef, staff, notation, melody, harmony, meter signature, tempo, dynamics and form through this compositional and performing process. Listening skills, the study of Orchestral instruments and famous composers rounds off the Grade 5 musical year. By June, they are ready to move on to new musical challenges and adventures at the Middle School level!
