ROBINSON MUSIC
All Grades K-2 students at Robinson School participate in Music instruction once weekly.
We work on beginning skills in singing, responding to Music, listening, keeping the steady beat
and working with simple rhythms and chants.
Percussion instruments used include shakers, rhythm sticks, jingle bells, step-bells, hand-drums and xylophones.
Movement and singing-games are frequently a part of each lesson. Some of our favorites include "Oh My Aunt Came Back," "Old King Glory of the Mountain," "Let Us Chase the Squirrel," "Rig-a-Jig-Jig," "Bow, Wow, Wow," (also known as "One, Two, Three," "Bear Hunt" and "Grizzly Bear."

Kindergarten students are introduced to vocal exploration and finding a singing voice, steady beat, loud and soft, high and low sounds and responding with movement to music.
Pre-First students review and build on Kindergarten music skills while pre-viewing some First Grade work.
First Grade students this year will review and practice different types of voices (singing versus speaking,)will work on matching pitch, singing solo, loud and soft singing, high and low sounds and the major scale, as well as to read and perform simple rhythm patterns.
Grade Two students build on this foundation by also learning how to read and perform quarter notes, eighth notes, half notes and quarter rests. They learn how to identify notes by letter name on the Treble Staff. In the Spring,
Grade Two also studies the String family in preparation for the Strings program which begins in Grade 3 at Crisafulli School.
Music is a performing Art and all Robinson School students in Grades Pre-First, One and Two have a chance to show-case their musical skills in a Robinson School performance at some point during the school year. Vocal skills in particular are strengthened when we learn songs, rehearse and perform in an ensemble performance for the school and our parents.
Grade Two students will be performing in "Kids are Kids the Whole World Round" on
Friday, March 22, 2019 at 1:45 p.m. in the Robinson School Dining Hall.
Grade One and Pre-First students will be performing in "Under the Sea" on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at 2 p.m. in the Robinson School Dining Hall.
We hope to see you there!!
